Why is Air India canceling scheduled flights to Hong Kong?

“Due to restrictions imposed by the Hong Kong authorities and limited demand, our flights to and from Hong Kong on April 19 and 23 have been cancelled,” — wrote Air India on social media.

Today, tourists can only arrive in Hong Kong if they have a negative test result taken 48 hours before travel. The Hong Kong government has set the rules.

Earlier in January of this year, Hong Kong announced a two-week ban on incoming flights from eight countries, including India, as cases of Omicron continue to rise globally. The ban also affected passengers from Australia, the UK, Canada, France, Pakistan, the Philippines and the United States, including transit passengers.

Another reason for Air India's decision to suspend flights was the abrupt change in the situation with COVID-19 within the country in recent days.
